Azerbaijan sends youngest finalist - Safura to the ESC 2010
Safura won the Azerbaijani national selection final, however the jury could not make up their minds as to what song Safura will sing in Oslo on 27th May during the second semifinal of the Contest. According to the Head of Azerbaijani Delegation Adil Kerimli, all 4 songs presented during the national final were outstanding and performed very strongly, so the jury decided to scrutinize the professional studio recordings of the songs prior to choosing the winner. The intrigue is expected to be resolved on 19th March when the winning song will be announced. Read more >

Azerbaijan National team earned a win
A friendly match between Jordan and Azerbaijan has been held at «King Abdulla» Stadium in Amman on 25th February. Azerbaijan National team earned a 2-0 win. Fabio Luis Ramim opened the score in the 46th second, Afran İsmailov scored Azerbaijani team second goal in the 31st minute. Read more >

Farzaliyev blasts Azerbaijanis into orbit: Azerbaijan 3-3 Ukraine (Azerbaijan win 4-2 on pens)
Azerbaijan beat Ukraine 4-2 on penalties following a 3-3 draw at the Papp László Arena to earn a UEFA European Futsal Championship semi-final tie on Thursday against Serbia and Portugal. Farzaliyev decider Scores level after 40 minutes, the game went straight into a penalty shoot-out, with veteran goalkeeper Andrey Tveryankin saving efforts from Maxym Pavlenko and Serhiy Cheporniuk. Azerbaijan holds semifinal for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest on February 2nd
Azerbaijan's national broadcaster, Ictimai TV (ITV), has set the date for the semi-final of their selection show for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. The semi-final is set to take place on the 2nd of February, press service of ITV told the news agency APA. According to them, several steps have already been taken by the channel. They've held qualifying rounds where 30 videos of young performers were assessed by local and foreign specialists. Six of them made it to the semi-final. The Azerbaijani semifinal for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest will take place at the Buta Palace in Baku. The shows will be broadcast live on TV and on the Internet. Read more >

First Round of World Team Chess Championship Played
The first round of 2009 World Team Chess Championship started with the symbolic first move of Recep Altepe, the mayor of the Bursa municipality. He moved e2-e4 instead of Azerbaijani Grandmaster Vugar Hashimov. Chess funs and journalists showed great interest to the first round. In the first round the Azerbaijani team beat Armenian team 2.5:1.5. The game on the third board where GM Shahriyar Mammadyarov beat Armen Pashikyan was crucial. Azerbaijan gains the match point with the help of GM Mamedyarov’s point. The rest three games ended in a draw. Read more >

US releases postage stamp dedicated to Shusha
Washington. Isabel Levine – APA. On this Christmas, one of the holiday items of the US Postal Service (PS) was a stamp dedicated to the establishment of Shusha in 1751 by Panakh Ali Khan Javanshir. It is said to be the first U.S. postage stamp dedicated to the historic city of Shusha in Azerbaijan. Read more >
