Azerbaijan's President calls national media to patriotism | CASPIAN BUSINESS NEWS

Azerbaijan's President calls national media to patriotism

President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan has used the 135th anniversary of the national press for the declaration of the state information policy.

Addressing to the Press Council, President Aliyev claimed that attempts to create in Azerbaijan an opinion about any subject to order of outer circles and on the basis of their general plans must be stopped.

"Here, I simply urge journalists to patriotism. We must not allow Azerbaijan to become an arena of confrontation of any external forces and interests,” he said.

At the same time he "knows that sometimes printing organs publish materials and articles under the influence and request of external circles, and this is unacceptable."

"As well as when taking up my post, I want to say that Azerbaijan will not be a place of conflict of interests of other countries. We have achieved this, despite the fact that there are such attempts, and it is not ruled out that they will be in the future, as our geopolitical situation, our policy and, in general, our position in the region, of course, attract attention and interest to Azerbaijan. We must make sure that Azerbaijan will be ruled by the will of the Azerbaijani people in the future for decades. And we should do our best to continue making efforts to build our state by the will of the Azerbaijani people,” President Aliyev said.

In this context, he urged the media to keep the problem of Nagorno Garabagh the centre of attention in their reports.

"Until territorial integrity of Azerbaijan is restored, we must follow constantly offensive policy against Armenia in all directions, by all means, and in all forms,” he said.

He raised the question of the necessity to work to bring the culprits of the genocide in Khojaly, occupation of Azerbaijani territories, and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijanis to responsibility as war criminals.

"The time will come when they will answer for these crimes before an international court,” the President believes. The Azerbaijani leader disagrees with international assessments of the level of democratic development in the country.

"They try to present Azerbaijan as allegedly anti-democratic country. This is deliberate and unfair struggle against us. We are ready for this fight and should oppose. And we should oppose to it only our policies in the good sense, perseverance, in order to protect interests of Azerbaijan,” the President stated.
